Kasper was my best friend! She met me in January 1997 when I made a delivery to the house where she was living. The owner of that house had several small dogs--very yappy, and always underfoot. The owner of that house asked me if I would like to have Kasper; I looked at Kasper and she looked at me, and we decided right then to try it out. Kasper was happy travelling with me as I delivered pharmaceuticals part time, and so she became my official co-pilot and guard dog. She never complained, even when it was a hot summer day and I had to leave the car for 10-15 minutes. Believe you me, nobody could come near that car when she was in it. She accepted the other members of my family as soon as she realized they were as precious to me as she had become. When we were at the warehouse, she guarded that as if it were hers. In fact, she wouldn't let even the mail man come in! As she aged, her hips started giving her trouble, and about her 13th birthday, she began having so much pain in her hips that I started to give her aspirin (72 mg) to ease the pain. This worked for her for several months, but the aspirin was taking its toll in that she became very lethargic and whenever she was not in the car, she would find a place to sleep. So I took her off the aspirin, but the pain got so much within a few hours that she wimpered. As you may know, dogs do not give much evidence of suffering pain, so it had to be extreme for her to whimper. There were other physical signs of her torment--inability to sleep, restlessness, extreme behaviour changes. I finally had to relieve har pain (aspirin did not work any more) and took her to her veterinarian. The only thing that we could do to relieve her pain was euthanize her. I stayed with her and held her as she fell asleep for the last time.
Kasper, my best friend, may you rest in peace, and God willing, we shall meet again!
Sincerely,
bobi
